OEM Plate, Timing Trigger (Crank Sprocket Flange): 2g DSM

This is the plate that sits behind the crank sprocket (and in front of the balance belt sprocket). This is the part that contains the timing "notch" associated with the crank pulley.

This notch is used to align the crank pulley with the respective pointer on the engine's front cover, which in turn, assures that the crank is at TDC. This plate also acts as a flange to prevent the timing belt from sliding towards the engine (which it would have a tendancy to do). 

On vehicles with a separate crank sensor, this plate is used by the sensor to determine the position of the crankshaft. The rotation of this plate is said to "trigger" the sensor and thus the term "timing trigger plate".
