Throttle Body Shaft Seals: DSM

Throttle Body Shaft Seals: DSM

These are the seals that seal the throttle body inlet valve shaft (oftentimes called a butterfly valve). This is one of the most common sources of a boost leak in a DSM. When your DSM first rolled off the assembly line, the original seals were soft, supple and provided an excellent seal. Of course, over time these seals get worn and hard and tend to loose their sealing ability. No need to fret, replace them with these.

Shaft seals are available in two different styles:

  • rubber
  • metal-reinforced rubber

The rubber seals are the seals we've been selling for years and years without complaint. The metal-reinforced seals are claimed by their manufacturer (SKF) to be metal encased.  However, they are actually externally rubber, internally reinforced with metal.

NOTE: We used to sell seals that we referred to as "military spec", which were seals encased in an outer metal shell.  We have none of these in stock and are currently unable to source them.

NOTE: DSM throttle bodies come in two styles: 1990 model year and all other years (1991-99). The 1990-style use one 12mm seal and one 14mm seal. All other throttle bodies use two 14mm seals.

NOTE: These seals are sized to fit turbo DSM throttle bodies, however, they will also work with non-turbo throttle bodies. The only meaningful difference between a turbo and a non-turbo throttle body is the depth of the shaft seal bore is slightly shallower on an NT throttle body. This will cause the shaft seals to protrude about 1mm from the face of the throttle body but this will cause no issues with sealing or anything else.
