RTM FIAV Blockoff/Eliminatior Kit: DSM/EVO 1-3

Made in-house here at RTM, this unit is used to either blockoff the FIAV (fast idle air valve) or else eliminate it completely. (RTM also makes a FIAV Bypass Kit which only bypasses the FIAV without blocking it off or eliminating it.  For details, please refer to the "Related products" section near the bottom of the page).

The FIAV is attached to the lower portion of the throttle body and its function is to provide additional air to the throttle body during cold engine idling. To do this, it incorporates a valve similar to the one used in your cooling system's thermostat which opens and closes in response to temperature changes in the coolant. Herein lies one of the big drawbacks of the FIAV: it has to be plumbed into the cooling system. The FIAV coolant feed and return hoses are sources of potential coolant leaks. Also, there's a risk (a small risk, to be sure) that coolant from the FIAV can leak into your throttle body and as you can guess, this would not be good. It is for these and other reasons that many DSM/EVOers choose to blockoff or eliminate their FIAV.

The FIAV blockoff/eliminator plate completely blocks off the entire FIAV (including the air passages used by the ISC). Therefore, this kit should only be used by those who wish to remove both their ISC and FIAV. When using this blockoff/eliminator plate, you can choose to keep the FIAV in place (but not functioning) or else remove it completely.

If you intend to merely blockoff the FIAV (but still plan to keep the FIAV in place) you can re-use the stock FIAV bolts.  However, since it's not uncommon for your stock bolts to be seized in place and require desperate measures to remove, we offer a FIAV bolt kit that includes a new set of stainless socket head bolts and lock washers. (We refer to this bolt kit as the "blockoff bolt kit").

If you intend to completely remove the FIAV, you CANNOT re-use the stock FIAV bolts because they will be too long.  Instead, you will need to use a set of much shorter bolts.  For your convenience, we offer a FIAV bolt kit that includes a new set of stainless socket head bolts and lock washers for this purpose. (We refer to this bolt kit as the "eliminator bolt kit").

The FIAV blockoff/eliminator plate is available in either aluminum or stainless steel.  There are really no meaningful differences between the two, it's really just a matter of personal preference.

When installing this kit (whether as a "blockoff" or "eliminator"), it is recommended that you use a new FIAV gasket. For your convenience, a new OEM FIAV gasket is available as an option.
