Banjo Fittings

These fittings have a circular port at one end (that encloses a banjo bolt) and either an -AN male or male hose barb extension on the other end.  The resultant shape resembles the guitar-like string instrument: a banjo, and thus the name.

DSMers TAKE NOTE:
Banjos are used for several applications on a DSM.
The most common examples are:
- M10 x 1.25: turbo oil feed (at head)
- M14 x 1.5: water ports of Mitsu 14B/16G family of turbos

NOTE: In the drop-down below, the choice for M14 banjo bolt is "M14 x 1.5NC".  The "NC" designation refers to "No Coolant".  That is, the port is especially small and is NOT recommended for water / coolant applications (but IS suitable for oil applications).

NOTE: In the drop-downs below, there is reference to a 10mm banjo to -4AN (thin body) fitting. This fitting is very similar to a standard-sized fitting except that its body is quite a bit thinner.  It's useful in situations that require a thinner fitting. The most common example is for use with a filtered turbo oil feed port on a DSM/EVO head.  For details, see the NOTE below.

NOTE on OIL PORT on DSM/EVO HEAD: The problem with attaching an inline filter right near the oil port on the head is that if it protrudes too far outward there can be interference issues with the thermostat housing and the various coolant lines in that area. One way of ensuring the inline filter doesn't protrude too far is to use a thinner banjo fitting.

NOTE: Banjo bolts require two crush washers to properly seal on their respective banjo fitting. It is recommended that any time the banjo bolt is disturbed (when removed for example) that new crush washers be used. This is due to the fact that the crush washers deform slightly to accomodate (and seal) any imperfections in the sealing surfaces. If the seal is disturbed, the chances of them "re-deforming" to form a seal are greatly diminished. Therefore we (and Mitsu and every banjo bolt manufacturer) recommends using new crush washers everytime a banjo bolt is installed.
