OEM Longer Flywheel Bolts: DSM

OEM Longer Flywheel Bolts: DSM

Genuine OEM parts.

The bolt flange area of many aftermarket aluminum flywheels are a bit thicker than stock (usually 4mm thicker), as a result, the stock flywheel bolts are often too short to give proper thread engagement. These longer bolts solve that problem! Also, the hardened bolt heads tend to dig into soft aluminum flywheels, so we recommend using a steel shim plate (which we also carry) between the bolts and flywheel.

Flywheel bolt specs (part no. MD008839):
M12x1.25 x 1.010" long (from underside of head to nose)

NOTE: RTM Racing also carries complete aluminum flywheel hardware kits (which include this shim plate, longer flywheel bolts and a few other components). We definitely recommend these for those interested in the totally proper method of attaching an aluminum flywheel to their crankshaft. For details, please refer to the "Related products" section near the bottom of the page.

NOTE: Some of you may be wondering, if these are official OEM flywheel bolts, how can they be longer than "stock"? Well, as it happens, they are the stock flywheel bolts on another Mitsu application (some model of Galant if memory serves).

WARNING: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE FLYWHEEL BOLTS DO NOT "BOTTOM OUT" BEFORE THE FLYWHEEL IS FULLY TIGHTENED DOWN. Therefore, we recommend the following procedure:
1) Install flywheel and install all bolts finger tight so that flywheel can still be jiggled a bit.
2) Tighten one bolt only.
3) Flywheel should be tight and not jiggle.
4) If it isn't tight, that bolt is too long, if it is tight, that bolt is good.
5) Re-loosen bolt just tightened, flywheel should jiggle again.
6) Repeat steps 2-5 for each bolt until all bolts have been checked.
7) Tighten only ONE bolt at a time, never more than that.
If any bolts are found to be too long, one solution is to
use an additional shim plate. Shim plates are available
separately elsewhere on the site.

Available for 6-bolt and 7-bolt.
