These BLE solid lifters are generally used in two different types of applications.

Application One:
Designed to replace the factory hydraulic lifters in 4G63 engines, their main advantage over hydraulic lifters is that they are more reliably able to handle extremely high revs (say, over 9,000) and do so with virtually no horsepower loss (as opposed to hydraulic lifter's tendancy to loose a small amount of power at higher revs). They're designed to exactly match the OEM units in physical dimensions so that they exactly fit the factory rockers and fit precisely inside the lifter ports. They're even heat treated to increase surface hardness and finished in a black oxide coating for better lubricity and corrosion protection. We feel obliged to point out that all the advantages these lifters possess come with a fairly significant downside: they are NOT self-adjusting and thus must be adjusted fairly regularily. Of course, they have provision for adjustment (via threaded members and a locking jam nut). In a vehicle that sees mostly track duty, the adjustment of lifters would not be considered especially noteworthy since many procedures considered cumbersome for a street car are routinely undertaken. However, that being said, most owners of street-driven vehicles would find the maintenance these lifters require too cumbersome to tolerate. Therefore, we feel these lifters are properly suited to track-only or track-mostly vehicles that see high revs.

Application Two:
The other, much more common application, is to use a pair of them to aid in degreeing adjustable cams gears (or in cases where the cam gears are not adjustable, at least establishing how much they're "out"). Solid lifters are much more convenient to use for this purpose since it's important to have "zero lash" in the lifters to properly degree cams. Hydraulic lifters CAN be modified to have zero lash, but it's a nuisance and less precise. It's so much easier to just start with lifters that already have zero lash.
