Don't try to force an NPT fitting into a BSPT thread! Many Japanese (and other non-US) automakers use BSPT threads instead of NPT. They look VERY close, but they are not compatible!! (By the way, BSPT stands for British Standard Pipe Taper. There also exists a Japanese standard (with a different acronym) that happens to be exactly the same). If you have a non-US made car and you have fittings that appear to be NPT (especially 1/8 NPT), chances are that it's BSPT. For example, most non-USers use BSPT on their pressure sending units.

There are doubtless many other examples, but we know for certain that DSMs use BSPT on the oil pressure sending unit and the threaded hole in the valve cover for the PCV. Bet you could never figure out why 1/8 NPT always seemed tight, right?

NOTE: In drop-down below, the 1/8 BSPT male/female "T" fitting is male on the bottom end and female on the other two ends. (An example of this fitting is shown in the photo).
