RTM Upgraded Upper Shock Mounts (Tophats): DSM

If you're serious about how your DSM handles, you'll love these units. These are a design similar to the units that Far North Racing used with great success in their rally cars. Manufactured in-house here at RTM Racing from CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum and finished with a special hard anodizing that greatly enhances their strength. These tophats employ a spherical bearing that allow both the shock and coil spring to move as one unit. This is important because it keeps the spring (and the shock piston) from attempting to bend and flex in undesirable directions. Quite simply, the only motion the spring and shock are ever SUPPOSED to exhibit are up and down, NEVER some version of side-to-side! Any attempt at side-to-side motion throws the spring rates, camber, tire contact patch, etc, etc, right out the window! Not to mention that it can overstress components to the point of failure!

The stock setup employs a rubber bushing to retain the shock piston and while this does allow for some VERY SMALL movement (the flex in the rubber) it is generally inadequate for anything other than pure point-A-to-point-B driving. If this is the type of driving you do in your DSM, the stock setup is perfectly adequate. If, however, you use your DSM for more spirited driving, may we introduce you to these beautiful units. These units are designed to replace the top shock mounts on both the front and rear of a 2nd gen DSM (1995-99) or the rear shock mount of a 1st gen DSM (1990-94).  

Also available are a pair of stainless steel standoffs/spacers: one which sits on top of the spherical bearing to properly locate the shock nut and one which sits below the spherical to properly locate the spring perch, and a circlip to retain the spherical bearing. Each tophat comes complete with a hard anodized coating.
